FOR BEGINNERS
FOR BEGINNERS
GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO PLAN

CONSIDER THE WEATHER
step 2
Unless you are planning on going somewhere with extreme heat it is recommended to go during the summer season. This will maximize daylight hours & minimize extreme weather conditions.
PICK A WELL TRAVELED TRAIL AND USE ESTABLISHED CAMPSITES
step 3
It can be super helpful to have other hikers around in case you run into any issues. Choose established routes & campsites so you minimize your chances of getting lost and impact on the environment.
KNOW WHERE YOUR WATER SUPPLY IS
step 4
Make sure there is potable water at the campsites or along the hike. Backpacking next to lakes, springs, rivers, and streams (if not dry) are also great. But make sure you purify the water before drinking! We love Grayl!
Be mindful of the elevation gains. If you aren't used to elevation you don't want to get sick on your first backpack. When tracking miles keep in mind you'll be going slower than usual with all the weight on your back.
CONSULT
