"The most photographed place in Colorado".  A great hike to see fall colors amongst the aspen trees. A reflective lake with two snowcapped mountains.

Hike about 14 miles from West Maroon trailhead to  Frigid Air Pass to first campsite. 

backpacking day 2

Hike about 8 miles on the Trail Rider Pass and camp at Snowmass Lake.

backpacking day 3

Hike about 8 miles on Buckskin Pass back to the parking lot and head to your hotel for some relaxing! You earned it.

Know before you go

Bear canisters are required when hiking or backpacking with food.  You don't need a permit or to register in advance but you do need to self register at the trailhead kiosks.

There is one rescue about every other day, mostly from dehydration. Make sure to bring a full bladder or bottle of water and stay on the trail at all times.
