NEW BORDER WALL OVER THE ARIZONA TRAIL

Starting July 13th CBP is moving ahead to construct 2 miles of wall along the US/Mexico border that directly impacts the Arizona Trail.

We know the wall is going up – it has been for a while and there seems to be very little to be done in the way of stopping it. So whether you agree with it or not, it’s going up one way or the other. But if you are paying attention to the details, there is more to be impacted than just the political front.

The wall will now directly impact the Arizona Trail.

The Arizona National Scenic Trail is a “complete non-motorized path, stretching 800 diverse miles across Arizona from Mexico to Utah. It links deserts, mountains, canyons, forests, communities and people.” In short, it’s a symbolic & historical trail that runs the span of Arizona. It’s wilderness sacred level. This new wall section will be cutting right into it.

“The southern terminus of the Arizona National Scenic Trail is one of the most significant locations along the entire 800-mile trail,” said ATA Executive Director Matthew Nelson. (source: AZTrail.org)

    What can you do?

Our main recourse is to urge everyone with an attachment to the Arizona Trail, or public lands in general, to reach out to their Congressional representatives to express their outrage.
